The Christmas Countdown

Christmas is just days away and so many people are out doing their last minute shopping, sending out those last minute cards, moms and grandmothers are making their final preparations for that feast on Christmas day and children are getting out of school and becoming more and more excited each day wondering what is under the tree for them on Christmas Day.

Let’s think back to that first Christmas Day.  It was a cold night and Jesus mother had ridden a donkey all day while Joseph carefully led the donkey to the city of Bethlehem.  When they arrived there was no room in any inn for them to stay.  Mary was just about to give birth to her baby and really needed a place to rest.  That night she gave birth to Jesus her baby and wrapped him in cloths and laid him in a manger which was a trough to feed the animals.  The only ones there for this most wonderful birth were the animals in the stable.

He should have been born in a palace and had all the servants and hand maidens to give him care and see that his every need was met.  After all He was the Son of God.  I can’t imagine how Mary must have felt when she held him for the first time and kissed him on the cheek.  She was holding the King of Kings and kissing the Son of God.  No one prepared a feast for them or gave them gifts or even sent cards to them.  It was just the animals who quietly looked on as she cared for her newborn son.

When I think of all the gifts that I have received for Christmas and how excited I was as a child each Christmas day, nothing can even hold a candle to that most perfect and wonderful gift that was given to all mankind that night in Bethlehem.

God loved us so much that He gave His only begotten Son for us so that we could have everlasting life in heaven with Him.  What have we done with this perfect gift?  Have we received it and then just tucked it away and know that we are now going to heaven, or have we spent our time sharing this gift with all those we come in contact with on a daily basis?  Only you can answer this question in your own heart.  How much time have we spent getting ready to share this gift with someone?  Only you can answer this.  How excited are we to share this perfect gift with someone?  Again, only you can answer this question.

I have spent time in our Toy Store ministry and also in my church’s Angel Tree ministry each year and this is the most wonderful time for me.  Here I can give this gift to all that I talk with and I can see people come to ask Jesus into their hearts and share in their joy.  This is now my Christmas, sharing the gosple of Jesus Christ with others and seeing them accept him.    Yes, I do have a family that I spend Christmas with, but I know in my own heart that the greatest gift that I can share with anyone is Jesus Christ.

What will you be found doing during this Christmas Countdown?  Who knows, it could be your last Christmas Countdown.  I want to make mine count for Him,  What about YOU?
